The Chainsmokers Headline Tomorrowland 2026 and Still Walk Through the Drive-Thru After

A few hours before tens of thousands of people flooded the main stage at Tomorrowland 2026, Drew and Alex from The Chainsmokers got their first look at the set. No one on the production side shows the headliners the stage until day-of, so the first real view of that sea of people came just hours before showtime. It is the kind of pressure most performers spend careers chasing, and the duo had been here before, seven times by their own count, not including second-weekend runs, with two of those appearances as headliners.

What seven Tomorrowlands actually teach you

The rehearsal philosophy that Drew and Alex have settled on is counterintuitive for a set of this magnitude. ‘Do not try to make a brand new set for the thing that’s a big deal,’ Alex said. ‘Make a set and play it two or three times before you get there.’ They bent that rule slightly at Tomorrowland, adjusting a few things last minute, but the backbone held. In a one-hour set, five songs that the crowd unmistakably knows anchor the whole structure. Everything else floats around that tent pole. The crowd responded hard from the opening moments, with ‘Hide Away’ pulling the field into the kind of collective movement that makes an outdoor stage feel intimate.

The postgame debrief was delivered with the rhythm of a locker-room interview. Alex framed the first quarter as ‘a little unsettled,’ but by the time the set reached its final run, the energy had locked in fully. The MC on stage told the crowd it was ‘the most beautiful set of energy and love I’ve ever seen,’ and the moment carried.

Cheeseburgers on the German border and the gelato that got away

The gelato stand at the festival closed before they could get back to it. That was a genuine loss. What followed was a group decision to find a late-night McDonald’s, which led to the entire touring party walking through a drive-thru on foot because their bus was too tall to clear the overhead clearance. Someone confirmed with the staff that they had technically crossed into Belgium, not Germany, settling a minor geographic argument mid-order. The haul included Big Macs, fries, multiple 10-piece chicken nuggets, and one vanilla ice cream cone that almost got forgotten. One of the group paid for the order of the person behind them before the bus moved on.

Between Tomorrowland and Parookaville, The Chainsmokers appeared on the Einlive stage, a radio brand they noted having worked with ‘for years.’ Speaking before the Parookaville set, Alex reflected on the duo’s history with the festival, which dates back to its very first edition. ‘That was a special event for us to be part of such a now-historical festival,’ he said.

The gelato stand that was definitely closed

Somewhere inside the Tomorrowland grounds, a gelato stand was locked up and dark. Alex had made a personal commitment, regardless of how the set went, to get some on the way back. The stand had other plans.

By the time the bus cleared the festival grounds, the order had already shifted to a vanilla soft-serve cone from a Belgian McDonald’s window, and the gelato remained unfinished business from a night that, by every other measure, delivered exactly what seven headlining appearances are supposed to build toward.
