Ralph and Cindy Zingarella married in 1976 and have spent 50 years together — and their daughters just made sure year 50 was unforgettable.
Daughters Andrea Bodin, 47, and Dayna Ferraro, 44, wanted to throw their parents a celebration worthy of half a century of love. The challenge: keeping it a complete secret. Their solution was simple and effective. They told Ralph and Cindy they were heading out for Dayna’s birthday dinner at a local steakhouse. The couple arrived with no suspicion. The moment they walked in, more than 100 guests shouted ‘Surprise.’
A Room Full of Decades-Long Friends
The guest list was a testament to just how deeply connected Ralph and Cindy are to the people around them. Some guests drove seven hours from Maine. Others flew in specifically for the occasion. Many of the attendees have been in the couple’s lives since they were teenagers.
‘They had friends come from all over,’ Dayna told People. ‘Some that drove down seven hours from Maine and others who flew in just to see them! The amount of joy and happiness that filled that room that day was something you can’t explain in words.’
Andrea and Dayna had been motivated by gratitude as much as celebration. ‘We wanted to do something really special for our parents, as they have always been there and supported us in our lives since the day we were born,’ Dayna told People. ‘They honestly are the best parents anyone could ask for. They have SO many close and special friends, and we knew that all of those people would want to celebrate their special milestone just as much as we did!’
Why This Matters
Fifty years of marriage is rare. Filling a steakhouse with 100-plus people who drove hours and flew in to prove they care about you is rarer still. Ralph and Cindy Zingarella didn’t just build a long marriage — they built a life so rich with genuine connection that their anniversary became everyone’s celebration.
