Homeless Man Sleeping on Miami Streets Spots Missing 6-Year-Old Alone at Night and Calls Police

On April 8, 2026, Arnett Johnson was sleeping on a bench near Northwest Seventh Avenue and 17th Street in Miami when he spotted a young boy wandering alone late at night. Johnson, who lives on the streets of Miami following his release from prison, looked around for a parent or guardian. There was no one. So he stayed with the child and called the police.

That single decision made Arnett Johnson a hero.

Arnett Johnson Felt a Calling That Night

When asked about the moment he found the 6-year-old, Johnson told Local 10: ‘God sent me there. I had to do what God say to do.’

Johnson described scanning the area for any adult responsible for the child. ‘I’m looking around for a parent, but I looked, and I don’t see nobody. You know what I’m saying? So I’m like, what is this kid doing out here outside at this time of night?’

Johnson remained with the boy until law enforcement arrived. Miami police Officer Mike Vega acknowledged exactly what Johnson’s intervention meant: ‘This was a good Samaritan that was sleeping in the streets, and he called us and gave us that information. Kudos to him. We don’t know what would have happened if he would have remained on the streets.’

Why This Matters

Arnett Johnson had nothing by conventional measures — no home, no resources, no safety net. But on the night of April 8, 2026, he had everything that counted: awareness, compassion, and the willingness to act. A 6-year-old boy made it home because a man sleeping on a Miami bench refused to look away.
